Title: The Power of Prayer

Speaker: Gabriel Ruhl

Bible Reference: Ephesians 6:18

Introduction:

1. The Persistence of Prayer

1 Thessalonians 5:17
Pray without ceasing.

Luke 18:1
And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

2. The Possibilities of Prayer

A. Pray on All Occasions

B. Pray in All Places

C. Pray for All Things

3. The Petition of Prayer

Matthew 6:9–13
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

James 4:2
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

Matthew 6:8
Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Quote: “Prayer is surrender—surrender to the will of God and cooperation with that will. If I throw out a boat-hook from the boat and catch hold of the shore and pull, do I pull the shore to me, or do I pull myself to the shore? Prayer is not pulling God to my will, but the aligning of my will to the will of God.”E. Stanley Jones

4. The Power of Prayer

Romans 8:26-27
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Quote: “Our prayers lay the track down on which God’s power can come. Like a mighty locomotive, his power is irresistible, but it cannot reach us without rails.”Watchman Nee

5. The Precision of Prayer

Nehemiah 4:17-18
17 They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.
18 For the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me.

Colossians 4:2
Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

6. The Perseverance of Prayer

Acts 2:42
And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Acts 6:4
But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

Romans 12:12
Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

7. The Purpose of Prayer

John 17:9
I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

Romans 1:9
For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

1 Samuel 12:23
Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

Conclusion:

Matthew 6:6
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

James 5:16
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
